Dr Lelanie Pretorius
Dr Lelanie Pretorius is a specialist haematologist and the Principal Consultant at Nelspruit Ampath Laboratories. She completed her medical degree at the University of the Free State, followed by internship and community service at Barberton Hospital in Mpumalanga.
She gained valuable international experience working as a General Practitioner at the Dr CW Wiebe Medical Centre and Boundary Trails Hospital in Manitoba, Canada. On returning to South Africa, she began her postgraduate studies in Haematology at the University of the Free State in 2004, qualifying as a specialist in 2007. She then served as a Consultant Haematologist in the Department of Haematology and Cell Biology at the university’s School of Medicine, where she also completed a postgraduate Diploma in Transfusion Medicine.
Dr Pretorius joined Ampath Laboratories in 2013, initially based in Bloemfontein. She currently leads the haematology team as Principal Consultant at Ampath Nelspruit. Her professional interests include haematological diseases and diagnosis, bone marrow investigations, coagulation disorders, flow cytometry, and transfusion medicine.
She is actively involved in clinical collaboration, regularly participating in general medical and ICU ward rounds, and values the strong support of her colleagues in delivering high-quality, patient-focused care.
