Ampath Learning Solutions (ALS) is a division of Ampath Laboratories, focused on offering tailored training solutions to meet the needs of learners and stakeholders. The ALS team consists of skilled and qualified medical and educational professionals who are committed to ensuring the highest standards of training is delivered. ALS makes use of state-of-the-art learning aids and simulators to enhance the learning experience.
Ampath is accredited by the HPCSA as a Training Provider and partners with other stakeholders such as the HWSETA, NARYSEC and Private organisations to reach different sectors of the population. While our 3 main campuses are based in Centurion, Durban and Port Elizabeth, we can offer short courses in other regions based on demand.

Course Details:
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the session, participants should:
Demonstrate knowledge to accurately complete patient information required for lab purposes
Understand ethical principles involved
Demonstrate knowledge, skill and attitude to successfully collect quality samples with minimal trauma to the patient / client (Including elderly, paediatrics and difficult veins)
Demonstrate knowledge, skill and attitude to collect non-blood samples for Microbiology studies
Correct labelling of specimens to ensure accurate processing
Outcome: Successful completion of the Phlebotomy programme and passing of the SMLTSA Board Examination, will lead to the obtaining of the certificate in phlebotomy techniques. The student will then be able to register with the HPCSA as a Medical Technician in the field of Phlebotomy and practice in South Africa as a qualified Phlebotomy Technician.

Candidates that have been shortlisted usually receive feedback 6 weeks after applications close.
You will receive a notification from the system indicating that your application has been received.
If your application meets the requirements and you are shortlisted, you will be invited to an interview. If you do not get any feedback after 12 weeks, please consider your application unsuccessful.
Feedback is sent via email, and shortlisted candidates (HWSETA funded) will be contacted telephonically to be invited to panel interviews.
If there is a change in your contact information you will need to update this on your profile that has been created in the Ampath career portal.

All shortlisted candidates for the HWSETA funded Phlebotomy Programme will be subject to a Panel interview prior to the final selection. This interview will be conducted either in person/virtually and will be used to engage with candidates to determine alignment with the specific requirements for the student phlebotomist role.
Research Ampath and a basic overview of phlebotomy, practice some common interview questions, dress professionally, ensure that you arrive a few minutes earlier than the scheduled time and bring any necessary documents that has been requested like your CV, copy of identity documents and matric certificates etc.
You are welcome to reapply, however, please ensure that your rejection was not due to you not meeting the minimum requirements such as having at least 50% in each of the required subjects at Matric or having a qualification higher than NQF level 4.
