Dr Marita du Plessis

Chemical Pathology

Dr Marita du Plessis obtained her undergraduate medical degree from the University of Pretoria in 1993. After qualifying, she worked at Pretoria Academic Hospital, and then moved to 1 Military Hospital, where she worked in Paediatrics for two years. She spent a year in the United Kingdom as a Resident Medical Officer in private hospitals. Dr du Plessis obtained her FC Path (Chem) (SA) and MMed (Chem Path) in 2002 from the University of Pretoria. She joined the Ampath team as a Chemical Pathologist in Pretoria in 2005, where she later became involved in laboratory automation and the establishment of the Autolab in Ampath's National Reference Laboratory (NRL). She is currently involved in the review and set-up of reference ranges for chemistry tests, as well as the development and programming of more integrated interpretive comments. Her main interests include diabetes, calcium and bone metabolism, cardiac markers, and the investigation of endocrinological disorders, including dynamic testing and the interpretation of various selective sampling procedures.
