Respiratory Virus Multiplex PCR and SARS-CoV-2 PCR: All age groups

Comments:

  • The most frequently detected viruses across all age groups during August were:
    • Rhino/enterovirus (34.8%)
    • Adenovirus (9%)
    • Seasonal coronaviruses (8.2%)

Epidemiological Week 1–36:

  • SARS-CoV-2: Positivity remained low at 4.8% in week 36.
  • Influenza A and B: Influenza A peaked in week 23 at 32.6%, decreasing to 3.2% in week 36. Influenza B remained low at 0.1%.
  • RSV: Peaked at 29.3% in week 16, decreased to 2.1% in week 36.

Atypical Bacterial Pathogens

Pathogens Covered: Bordetella pertussis, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila

Comments:

  • B. pertussis, M. pneumoniae, and C. pneumoniae continue to circulate at low levels.
  • Six cases of Legionella pneumophila pneumonia were detected in August.
  • Most B. pertussis cases were in the 1–5 year (28%) and 6–12 year (27%) age groups.
  • Most C. pneumoniae cases were in the 1–12 year age group.
  • Most M. pneumoniae cases were in adults aged 19–64 years.

  • <1 year of age:
    • Rhino/enterovirus (49.7%)
    • Adenovirus (13%)
  • 1–5 years of age:
    • Rhino/enterovirus (55.5%)
    • Adenovirus (24.3%)
  • 6–12 years of age:
    • Rhino/enterovirus (48.2%)
    • Other viruses circulated at low levels
