Respiratory Virus Multiplex PCR and SARS-CoV-2 PCR: All age groups

Comments:

  • The most frequently detected viruses across all age groups during June were:
    • Influenza A (28.4%)
    • Rhino/enterovirus (25.6%)

Epidemiological Week 1–28:

  • SARS-CoV-2: Positivity remained low at 0.9% in week 28.
  • Influenza A and B: Influenza A peaked in week 23 at 32.6%. Influenza B remained low at 0.2% in week 28.
  • RSV: Peaked at 29.3% in week 16, dropped to 9.1% in week 27, then slightly increased to 11.2% in week 28.

Atypical Bacterial Pathogens

Pathogens Covered: Bordetella pertussis, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila

Comments:

  • B. pertussis, M. pneumoniae, and C. pneumoniae continue to circulate at low levels.
  • One case of Legionella pneumophila pneumonia was detected in June.
  • Most B. pertussis cases were in the 1–5 year age group (29%).
  • Most C. pneumoniae cases were in the 1–12 year age group.
  • Most M. pneumoniae cases were in adults aged 19–64 years.

Comments: Significant findings per age group during June

  • <1 year of age:
    • RSV (36.6%)
    • Influenza A increased from 10.4% in May to 15.5% in June
  • 1–5 years of age:
    • Rhino/enterovirus (39.5%)
    • Influenza A (37.3%)
    • Adenovirus (20.2%)
  • 6–12 years of age:
    • Influenza A (40.9%)
    • Rhino/enterovirus (29.8%)
